By The Numbers: 2023 Schedule For The Colorado Rapids

  • There will be 237 days between the season opener at Seattle Sounders on February 26th, and the Decision Day showdown at home to Real Salt Lake on October 21st.

  • The Rapids will face seven Eastern Conference teams, including last season’s MLS Cup runners-up, Philadelphia Union, who gave them a good hiding in 2022.

  • Other Eastern Conference teams faced by the Rapids: Atlanta United, Charlotte, FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, New England Revolution, and Orlando City.

  • Strangely, the Rapids will clash three times with Real Salt Lake, with the Rocky Mountain Cup up for grabs. They meet every other Western Conference team just twice. The Rapids plays RSL twice at home.

  • There are a couple of road stretches sure to challenge the Rapids. They play five of seven away from home, between April 8th and May 17th. Six of the last nine are on the road, starting with a three-game stretch once MLS resumes after Leagues Cup.

  • The clash with RSL on the final day of the regular season will be the sixth such meeting. The two clubs met in 2005, and then in every final game of the season from 2007-10. The 2010 occasion saw RSL bag two goals in the 90th minute to claim a 2-2 draw, and the Rocky Mountain Cup. The result ended up sending the Rapids into the Eastern Conference portion of the playoffs, en route to lifting MLS Cup.

  • Of the 34 regular season games, 26 will take place on a Saturday. There is one Sunday game (season opener), one on a Tuesday (4th July), and six on a Wednesday.

  • Just five weeks separates the home and away meetings with Sporting Kansas City. From facing Seattle in the first game of the season, the teams go their separate ways until match 29, some 29 weeks later.

  • With them moving back to the Eastern Conference, the Rapids will not meet Nashville in 2023. They are still to play Inter Miami, who entered the league in 2020.

  • The league's newcomers, St. Louis City, visit DICK'S Sporting Goods Park for the first time on April 22nd. The Rapids make a first-ever trip to St. Louis City on July 1st.

  • Charlotte FC enjoyed a 0-0 draw in Commerce City last season, their first in MLS. The Rapids make a first visit to Bank of America Stadium on April 15th.

  • Last season's MLS Cup and Supporters' Shield winners, LAFC, will stop by DSGP on April 1st.

  • This year's 4th July opponents will be Portland Timbers. Their one and only previous visit on Independence Day came in 2016. The match marked a return to MLS for Tim Howard and ended 0-0.

  • FC Cincinnati are in town over Memorial Day weekend. In their fifth season, this will be just a third meeting with the Rapids.
