Rapids Loan Watch: Toure Sees Red As Switchbacks Held
Dantouma Toure certainly had an eventful game last Friday for the Colorado Springs Switchbacks in a 1-1 draw at Real Monarchs SLC, on a night when four Colorado Rapids loanees saw action for the USL Championship side.
Toure replaced Rapids teammate Philip Mayaka on 62 minutes, and was booked for a foul 14 minutes later. Bottom team Real Monarchs, playing with 10 men since the 13th minute, and leading since the 47th, were finally broken down by the visitors as Andre Lewis equalized in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Teenager Toure collected a second yellow card for excessive celebrations and was sent off.
Other players in action included Michael Edwards and Sebastian Anderson, while former Rapids midfielder Dillon Serna played the last quarter of the contest. Goalkeeper Abe Rodriguez was an unused substitute.
The Switchbacks have one game remaining, at San Antonio FC, on Saturday night. The teams are level on points, with San Antonio in second and the Switchbacks in third.
San Antonio, meanwhile, were held 0-0 at home by Austin Bold FC last weekend. Rapids’ homegrown defender Kortne Ford continued to hold down the San Antonio back four, going the full 90 minutes once more.
Oliver Larraz started for San Diego Loyal on Sunday, playing the first 45 minutes. Despite taking the lead, San Diego were beaten 4-3 at home by Oakland Roots. They looked to have secured a point with an equalizer in the 86th minute.
Oakland then had a player sent off, before the visitors snatched all three points with the winner from the penalty spot in stoppage time. Oakland included former Rapids striker Quincy Amarikwa.
San Diego’s last game of the regular season is on Saturday at Sacramento Republic FC.
