2023 highlights: San Jose start on the road on February 25th when they head to Atlanta United. They will certainly be familiar with their California neighbors LA Galaxy and LAFC. The start of May looks like this: vs. LAFC at Levi's Stadium on May 6th, away to LA Galaxy on May 14th (FS1), then at LAFC on May 20th. They face the Galaxy and LAFC in back-to-back games in July, against the Galaxy at Stanford Stadium on July 1st, and back to BMO Stadium on July 8th. They also play the Galaxy three times, with the final meeting coming at PayPal Park on August 30th. As well as Atlanta on the opening weekend, the Quakes go to New York Red Bulls and D.C. United in the Eastern Conference. They play just two games in October, with Decision Day Sunday being home to Austin FC.

2022 summary: the Quakes finished bottom of the Western Conference and had the third worst record in all of MLS (8-15-11) as they missed out on the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons (the one season they made the postseason was 2020, when the season and playoff format was disrupted by Covid). There was disruption in the coaching department. Matias Almeyda made it clear he was unhappy in his role and was eventually fired in April. Alex Covelo took over for the remainder of the season before Luchi Gonzalez was hired for the start of 2023.
Facts and Stats: despite their overall struggles, they had a player who knew where the goal was in Jeremy Ebobisse, who bagged a career high 17 goals and started all 34 games. He was supported by Cristian Espinoza's 14 assists, another career high. Only D.C. United (71) conceded more goals than the Quakes (69) in 2022. San Jose has given up more goals just once in their 25 seasons, when leaking 71 in 2018. Their four defeats at PayPal Park were the fewest on home soil (truncated 2020 season aside) since losing two at home in 2017. The season opener at Atlanta will be Luchi Gonzalez's first MLS game in charge since his FC Dallas side lost 3-2 at Houston Dynamo on September 18th, 2021.
Milestones in 2023: the match at New York Red Bulls on April 8th will be San Jose's 800th regular season game in MLS (including San Jose Clash 1996-99). Some other numbers to note ... Ebobisse is three regular season starts away from 100, Jackson Yueill is three shy of 150 MLS appearances, Nathan is four from 50 starts/appearances, with Benji Kikanovic three from 50 appearances.
